Taylor election numbers show Garza is clear winner of mayoral race – The News Herald
The election numbers are for the mayoral and city council races in Taylor, and they show the top two winners for mayor even before the Wayne County Board of Solver considers the written candidates.
Tuesday’s election results in Taylor only take into account the three candidates on the ballot for mayor and 16 candidates for council.
According to unofficial Taylor Clerk’s Office numbers for mayoral candidates on the ballot, State Representative Alex Garza was the clear winner with 2,793 votes, followed by board chairman Tim Woolley with 1 738, narrowly ahead of Jeff Jones with 1,713 votes.
Mayor Rick Sollars, along with Christie Clancy, launched writing campaigns for the mayoral race, but failed to match their efforts.
According to preliminary results, the total number of written votes was 1,633, less than the three candidates in the ballot.
There are three candidates in writing for the board. These votes are totaled out of a number, without indicating which candidate received a specific number of votes.
The first two candidates qualify for the November 2 elections.
Even though the scriptures may have lost on Tuesday, they can still run a writing campaign in November.
